# Note attachments

> Download the file attached to any note, as base64, by the attachment's uuid.

Note attachments are the files added to notes on accounts, orders, invoices and other records. You can download any of them by its uuid. This area has 1 endpoint, and all seven SDKs call it.

> [!WARNING]
>
> **An attachment stays readable after its note is deleted, and after the record the note belongs to is deleted.** Only the attachment's own status is checked.

## At a glance

| Endpoint | Method | Path | What it does |
| - | - | - | - |
| [Retrieve a note attachment](https://exsited.mintlify.site/api-reference/note-attachments/retrieve-a-note-attachment.md) | GET | `/note_attachment/{attachment_uuid}` | Retrieves the file attached to any note, as base64. |

## Before you call

Register your API credentials once when your app starts, as shown in
[Authentication](https://exsited.mintlify.site/authentication.md). Every SDK sample on these pages then gets its client in one line.
With cURL, send the access token in an `Authorization` header: `Authorization: Bearer $ACCESS_TOKEN`.

## Things to know

* **One route serves the attachments of every note.** It does not matter which record the note belongs to.
* **The path is singular.** Use `/note_attachment/{attachment_uuid}`.
* **The file comes back as base64.** Decode `note_attachment.base64` to get the bytes; `name` and `size` sit beside it.
