# Custom forms

> List, create, read, update and delete the custom forms in your Exsited settings.

Custom forms set the layout of the forms used for records such as accounts. This area has 5 endpoints to list, create, read, update and delete them, and all seven SDKs call every one.

## At a glance

| Endpoint | Method | Path | What it does |
| - | - | - | - |
| [List custom forms](https://exsited.mintlify.site/api-reference/custom-forms/list-custom-forms.md) | GET | `/settings/custom_forms` | Returns one page of the custom forms in your settings. |
| [Create a custom form](https://exsited.mintlify.site/api-reference/custom-forms/create-a-custom-form.md) | POST | `/settings/custom_forms` | Creates a custom form and returns it, under `custom_form`. |
| [Retrieve a custom form](https://exsited.mintlify.site/api-reference/custom-forms/retrieve-a-custom-form.md) | GET | `/settings/custom_forms/{custom_form_id}` | Returns one custom form, under `custom_form`. |
| [Delete a custom form](https://exsited.mintlify.site/api-reference/custom-forms/delete-a-custom-form.md) | DELETE | `/settings/custom_forms/{custom_form_id}` | Deletes a custom form that is not system generated and returns no body. |
| [Update a custom form](https://exsited.mintlify.site/api-reference/custom-forms/update-a-custom-form.md) | PATCH | `/settings/custom_forms/{custom_form_id}` | Changes a custom form's name, display name, description or users and returns the form. |

## Before you call

Register your API credentials once when your app starts, as shown in
[Authentication](https://exsited.mintlify.site/authentication.md). Every SDK sample on these pages then gets its client in one line.
With cURL, send the access token in an `Authorization` header: `Authorization: Bearer $ACCESS_TOKEN`.

## Things to know

* **A create needs `name` and `setting_group`.** `setting_group` is a setting group name such as `ACCOUNT`, and both go under `custom_form`.
* **A custom form id starts with `cf_`.** One form comes back under `custom_form`.
* **Only a form that is not system generated can be deleted.** `is_system_template` tells you which forms are system generated.
* **An update changes the name, display name, description or users.** Send only the fields to change under `custom_form`.
* **Listings page by cursor.** Records sit under `data`; pass `pagination.next_cursor` as `cursor` to read the next page, and stop when `pagination.has_more` is `false`.
